The article analyzes the approach to themes related to the theory of recognition within the media. Also, it investigates the possibility that such discussions might trigger more plural communicative exchanges. A content analysis was applied for three special editions of Encontro com Fátima Bernardes tv show. The results show the absence of deliberative elements during the discussions, while discourses on different forms of recognition are observed, especially involving social esteem and exclusion issues. It is concluded that, although the program does not effectively promote moments of deliberation, it provides reflections on the recognition of social minorities that can foster tolerance and increase the quality of public deliberations.
